MAN supported the HGV safety rating scheme by providing a TGM equipped with all the relevant safety options for assessment. The TGM is MAN's first 5-star rated truck, just achieving the rating with well balanced performance across Safe Driving, Crash Avoidance and Post Crash Safety. Its direct vision is adequate, however an optionally available, very good camera monitor system provides enhanced driver vision. The direct driver monitoring system supports safe driving by detecting drowsiness in real time and the system can bring the vehicle to a safe stop if the driver is unresponsive. A range of high performing AEB and lane support collision avoidance technologies are available for the TGM, the only notable absence being an AEB system for protecting cyclists in nearside turning collisions. The TGM earns its CitySafe award by the high performing indirect vision and frontal collision avoidance technologies options compensating for the adequate direct vision and absence of nearside turn AEB cyclist protection.
