It is limited in its direct vision performance compared to class leading competitors in the sector, although its recent addition of a camera monitor system benefits its overall Safe Driving score. The Renault Trucks T performs well in Safe Driving. It has relatively shallow windows with a high belt line relative to the driver’s eye height, which limits direct vision. However, the replacement of the class II/IV mirrors with a camera monitor system helps improve both direct and indirect vision. A supplementary camera monitor system is optionally available, which displays a view of the nearside blind spot on a secondary monitor whenever the direction indicators are activated. This improves the vision at the front corner but duplicating the conventional mirror risks an increase in driver workload. Seat belt reminders are fitted to all seats, encouraging belt use. The attention assist system exceeds minimum legal requirements without excessive false alerts. The Renault Trucks T has a range of crash avoidance technologies that generally perform well. It is equipped with an AEB system that is very good at avoiding collisions with other vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists. Unintentional driver inputs during critical situations do not reduce system effectiveness. The AEB system cannot be turned off easily but if it is turned off, it doesn’t automatically reactivate. An AEB system that prevents nearside turning collisions with cyclists was tested and performed well. A good optional lane support system is available, which performs well in both lane departure incidents and lane change conflicts with other vehicles.
