The IVECO Daily steps up from four to five stars with improved safety performance. With driver and passenger airbags as standard, and a side curtain optional, passive safety is also well catered for. ADAS performance is improved over earlier versions, with better scores in lane support and for autonomous emergency braking (AEB), especially with regard to vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. These changes are enough to move the van into Euro NCAP’s highest echelon of safety.

Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system is standard equipment throughout Europe. The system combines AEB with Forward Collision Warning (FCW) that detects vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists as well as other vehicles. In Euro NCAP’s tests of the system’s reaction to vehicles, performance was good, tailing off only a little at higher speeds and where the target was offset to one side. The system performed well in tests of its reaction to pedestrians, and the system now provides protection to those to the rear of the van. The system’s response to cyclists was also good.

The standard-fit Lane Support System (LSS) gently steers the vehicle if it is drifting out of lane and intervenes more aggressively in some more critical situations to prevent the van from leaving the road. Overall performance was good, and improved over earlier systems. A blind-spot information system is available.

The speed assistance system uses digital mapping and a camera to determine the local speed limit. This information is presented to the driver and the speed limiter can be set accordingly. However, the accuracy of the speed limiter remains just outside of Euro NCAP’s tolerances and was not rewarded.

There is a standard-fit seatbelt reminder system for both the driver and passenger seat.
