Daimler Truck supplied a new 2025 Actros L with ProCabin tractor unit for testing, the ratings being transferable to the very similar Actros F and it earning a good 4 star rating. The manufacturer acknowledged that this rating is also relevant for a rigid 6x2 version. The Actros F features many of the safety features available that Euro NCAP consider enhances the safety of trucks. Owing to its lower cab mounting height, the direct vision of the Actros F is better than that of the ProCabin, and it is fitted with high performing ADAS technology that can support the driver in reducing the risk of a collision. Daimler Truck were the first heavy truck maker to fit a camera monitor system enhancing the driver's view and the first to offer a nearside turn cyclist collision detection system with active braking, both enhancing the safety performance in cities and earning the CitySafe award. The Actros F also offers good support for the driver on motorways with good performance in both lane support and AEB tests suggesting that the Mercedes-Benz Actros F is a good and safe choice for operators in both city and highway environments.

The Actros F performs well in Safe Driving. The use of a camera monitor system helps it achieve an acceptable direct vision score, eliminating the areas blocked by conventional mirrors. The camera monitor system provides an enhanced class II/IV views but it retains conventional class V/VI mirrors, lacking the enhanced corner view. The Actros F scores full marks for seat belt reminders and its driver monitoring has a novel ‘safe stop’ feature that will automatically bring the vehicle to a controlled stop should the driver become unresponsive. A close following distance warning is provided and use of the ACC reduces the risk of front to rear collisions. It also features a very good speed assist system to inform the driver of speed limits and reduce the risk of inadvertent speeding.

Daimler Truck was first to market with many of the collision avoidance systems Euro NCAP have evaluated and they offer technologies in all areas assessed. The Mercedes-Benz Actros F AEB is very good at avoiding front to rear collisions with vehicles but the performance in frontal collisions with pedestrians and cyclists is bettered by some competitors. An emergency lane keep assist system is available, showing good performance if the vehicle unintentionally leaves the lane by limiting the excursion and returning to position in a controlled fashion. In the intentional lane change tests, the system avoided a collision with an adjacent vehicle in the blind spot in all cases. This system reduces the risk of collisions with other vehicles and roadside hazards and includes features to promote driver acceptance. Daimler Truck pioneered the development of an automated braking system to protect cyclists in nearside turning collisions, a potential game changer in a very emotive and high profile crash type. It performs well at protecting cyclists in these challenging incidents.
